    Event Description:
Please join this webinar/conference call to learn more about different types of organics recycling/food scraps programs - including how they were implemented, challenges faced, partnerships, cost, logistics and general pros/cons. Also hear about SustainableCT's programs and how organics recycling in your community can earn points towards certification.

    Presenters:

Jen Heaton-Jones, Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority
HRRA implemented the first curbside food scrap collection pilot program in Connecticut in partnership with All American Waste and how this effort transitioned to a municipal drop-off program. Ms. Jones will also share how that project initiated the additional municipal drop-off programs (5 in all, Bridgewater, Newtown, New Fairfield, Redding and Ridgefield).

John Phillips, City of West Hartford
West Hartford implemented a curbside food scrap collection experiment in partnership with Covanta Energy, Paines, Inc. and Quantum Biopower. While the experiment proved successful, there were some challenges if they would need to address before/if they would move forward with a city-wide program to collect food scraps.

    Alyssa Norwood, SustainableCT
Sustainable CT is a voluntary sustainability certification program for Connecticut’s municipalities. Ms. Norwood will discuss how municipal efforts to manage organic materials can earn points toward certification.

    Caren Harder, CT DEEP
Caren Harder will provide a quick review of Connecticut’s Organics Recycling Law and how it impacts municipalities.

    Facilitator: Sherill Baldwin, CT DEEP
